Important : You must make one change to the code - In order for the button to work for your blog you must add your blogs I.D.Below i show you how to find your blogs ID and once you have it replace BLOG-ID-HERE with it.
To find your Blogger I.D. simply go to your blogs design page, new post page or any of the pages you access from your dashboard and copy your I.D. from the address bar at the top of the page.
Your Blog I.D. is a the number that appears in the URL - This is how your I.D. will be displayed :

Were To Place The Followers Button
You can add the gadget to your sidebar - Go to Design > Add A Gadget > Choose Html/Javascript > Paste in the code and save.
Add The Gadget Below Your Posts - Go To Design > Edit Html > Tick Expand Widget Templates.
Find the following piece of code in your blogs Html : (Click Ctrl and F for a search bar to help find the code - More Info)
<div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-1'>
Paste Your Button Code Directly Below <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-1'> then save your template.

ReplyDeletegreat , have not been using of late google frined connect on my bloggers blog due to its heavy laoding times , thanks for this , great i am following yours articles , I like this post.
ReplyDeleteI did read about this hack some where earlier but forgot on which site I did. Well, you have it here. Thanks for the hack. It is pretty useful to reducing the loading time for our sites because the JavaScript associated with the friend connect gadget takes a lot of time to load. I would like to know if we can reduce the number of rows to less than two in this gadget?
ReplyDeleteCool Gadget !
ReplyDelete@ All - Thanks for the positive comments.
ReplyDelete@ Mukund - If you create your followers gadget on the Google Friend Connect website you can set the hight of the gadget. Then the smaller the gadget the less rows of faces shown.
Check out my blog, I merged Google Follow button, Twitter Follow Button and Facebook Like button at one place at the bottom of the page. Thanks spiceupyourblog.com for such great tools and tricks!
ReplyDelete@Paul Crowe: By just reducing the height, we hiding the images beneath them, It does not mean that it will stop the script on loading the first row - so, it will take the same time to load. Right? My ultimate aim is to reduce the load time!!!
ReplyDelete@ Mukund - You could try to edit the script i guess - http://www.google.com/friendconnect/script/friendconnect.js .I would not like to mess with it too much though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this! i have my own site (hosted through wordpress) but want a button that doesn't show my followers. ReplyDeleteI have wordpress and what I did was go in and change the blogger URL to my current wordpress URL and it works. Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! Love that I can shorten the friends connect! I have a Blogger blog but always hated how it looked like clutter.
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to have just the button and include a number (to show how many people are following the blog?). Thanks.
ReplyDeletethis was super useful ... thanks :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting this! I have been trying to get people to read my blog but right when Google or Blogger or whoever it is, started cleaning up and took away GFC from non-Blogger blogs, for some reason, mine disappeared too - I have a Blogger blog. And no one at Google or Blogger helped me. I can't put the widget back because the template says it's missing and I didn't think anyone was getting my updates. There have been weeks where I would post and not a single person commented because I'm guessing they didn't get the update.
ReplyDeleteI tried this code and it actually works! So thank you very much! Hopefully this will get people to come back and start reading my blog again.
I just have one question, is there anyway to have a counter or something to indicate to others (and me) that there are fans/followers of this blog? Or is there anyway to add something like that? Please let me know!
Again, thank you very much! You may have saved my blog :)
~ Kieli ~
thanks for this post...i think the same @Kieli_Heart !!!
ReplyDelete"I just have one question, is there anyway to have a counter or something to indicate to others (and me) that there are fans/followers of this blog? Or is there anyway to add something like that? Please let me know!"
yeah please that would be wonderful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for the sharing, I like this version instead of big one, this widget is very small & useful~~
ReplyDeletehi, just wondering if I have to remove my current 'Followers' gadget in order to put in this new stand alone button? And if so will I lose all my current followers? (I don't have too many followers - but want to keep the ones I have. Due to the low numbers, I would like to hopefully just have the 'Follow' button without showing the number of followers with their profiles etc - as with the current Followers gadget.) Many thanks in advance for your help.
ReplyDeleteDonna, you do not need to remove your current followers gadget. Also your followers are connected to your blog`, so this button adds followers to your blog the same as the standerd gadget.
DeleteThank you so much for taking the time to respond. Much appreciated. I'm off to give it a go!
DeleteHi, I am having a problem with my 'follow' button. It has been working fine for the past few months but now it is nott registering when someone new follows my blog. As only I can see the amount of followers I have through my blogger dashboard, my newer followers don't see the problem. I have had to remove this follow button and re add the original GFC follow widget. I have emailed you through your contact form with more info. PLEASE help! Thank you so much, Hannah

I'm afraid I don't know why that would happen. It could be as a result of another gadget being added to your blog.So if you added other gadgets to your blog recently they could affect it.Once again though there is no way for me to know what scripts you have that are affecting it :(
Deletethank u very much....
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful blog. . I also found what I needed, here. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi, do you know a way I can have a stand alone twitter button on my blog?
ReplyDeleteNice tips thanks..
ReplyDeleteI've been searching everywhere for this gadget, as it doesn't seem to be on the gadget menu any more. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI need help! My GFC is not showing up on my blog. Originally a designer built my blog, but I wanted a change. She had a gadget on my sidebar for my GFC. It had a link for a custom photo and the code for GFC.
ReplyDeleteAll I did, was change the photo. The photo shows up, but not my GFC.
Thank you in advance for any help.
Never mind, I fixed it. Thanks so much for your wonderful blog.
Deletethank you so much for this been looking for this for ages
