Google To Rename Blogger Google Blogs Picasa Also To Become Google Photos ?

Social Media Blog Mashable today broke the story that Google are planning to Re-Brand Blogger over the next few weeks.According to Mashable Blogger is to be re-named Google Blogs.Google will also Re-Name their image hosting site Picasa, it will become Google Photos(All images upload to Blogger are hosted on Picasa). This has not been confirmed by Google but the source would need to be reliable for Mashable to publish the story, they said

The transition from Picasa and Blogger to Google Photos and Google Blogs will occur “in a month to a month and a half,” we’ve been told. The date aligns with the likely public launch of Google+.

What Will This Mean For Blogger Users

Google has yet to make any statement on the changes so as of yet we cant tell if it's a straight name change or more.Another rumored change they could make would be to change the blogspot.com sub domain, a change like this could only be made to new blogs they couldn't change the domains of existing blogs.I don't think they will change the blogspot domain so i wouldn't worry about it.Personally i don't think it will be a big deal (I Might have to edit a lot of posts replacing Blogger with Google Blogs :/).

The brand unification effort will be the largest in company history — it’s never renamed a property as large as Blogger. The popular blog creation service has been receiving a lot of extra love recently. In March, Google announced that Blogger would receive a major overhaul. We doubt many people expected that the overhaul would include a re branding, though.

Whats your opinion on the proposed change ?

  1. It would certainly be worrying - and confusing for some - if Google changed the sub-domain to existing blogs. Personally I don't really understand why they are making these changes, if true. Blogger is an established brand/name; why fix something that isn't broken in the first place. However, if it is to happen, let's hope that changes are improved rather than the opposite. Looking forward to further news about this, Paul.

  2. My blog has not worked properly even once since the blogger overhaul/meltdown. So far things have already taken a turn for the worse in my book and this probably won't be any better. Seriously considering Wordpress.

  3. There are a lot of blogger help blogs that have blogger in their name...wonder if they'll all be changing their names too

  4. I don't think Google will change the domain name of Blogger, if it happens, then old URL will be redirected to new one. So don't worry.

  5. But will we still not be able to get hold of anyone when things go wrong? I still can't access my blog after paying to have my own domain. I have posted on the forum and the blogger suggested blog, and tried all avenues of FAQa, and completed their customer satisfaction survey, and still no one will help. Google may be looking for world domination, but their customer service is really poor

  7. Things are really happening with Google.

I woke up finding the new interface in Draft this morning (really don't like it...) and now I find out that Blogger won't be called Blogger anymore. I got a really good blogger-xxx.com domain just the other week, wish I had know about the name change then.

  9. I don't understand Google anymore.... recently, a lot of things Google has changed and done substantially, including the co.cc removal. I still use the blogspot subdomain and I am so worried about this news. Should I change my blog's domain to TLD or another SLD? regarding that my blog has got good traffic, SEO, and rank, it will be a very hard thing to do. :(
