Blogger Threaded Comments Errors And Tutorials

Last week the Blogger team introduced threaded comment replies, since then there has been a number of issues. Many of these issues can be easily resolved while there are one or two that are currently being worked on.If your still having trouble implementing threaded comments on your blog check out the tutorials from Harish on way2blogging - Tutorial - Video Tutorial.

Posts Jumping Directly To Comment Form

The main Blogger issue being experienced is pages jumping straight to the comment form.Basically when you click into a post you are brought to the comment form instead of the top of the post. This is being experienced by users of the Firefox and Internet explorer browser. At the moment there is no fix for this and to stop it you need to change your comment settings from embedded to pop up.Of course when you do this you loose threaded comments. The Blogger team know of this issue and more info can be found in This thread.

This blog currently has this problem and until it's resolved the comment form will be set to pop up which unfortunately disables the threaded replies.I would have expected Blogger to release this new feature to Blogger In Draft first in order to iron out problems but I'm sure they will have it fixed soon.

Blogs That Previously Added The Blogger Comment Reply Hack

Many blogger users implemented a comment reply hack either from Spice up Your Blog (Blogger Comment Reply Hack) or elsewhere. From what i can see this does not effect the new threaded comments, the demo page for our hack has the new threaded comments (Demo Page).Let me know your experience with this.

  6. Thank you for this additional info. I think we have only minor customization (e.g., color and font)to a Blogger template, but we have 2 threaded comments issues on 2 blogs.

    1) Reverted widget templates to default and followed instructions; Reply still does not work: http://forum.bigfamilynews.com/.

    2) Since activating this feature, comment timestamp is 3 hours earlier than our time zone (ET) formatting on both blogs, even where Reply is working: http://www.lovenymusic.com/. Comment timestamp is correct on our other blogs. Any other ideas or suggestions? Thank you, in advance, for your consideration.

  7. I noticed that new threaded comments are not working properly with chrome/chromium
did you have the same problem?

  8. Replying to Santiago, thanks for an area to test.In our case, Chrome is working with Reply on one blog, except for displaying wrong comments timestamp (i.e. inconsistent with our blog setting).

On blog where Reply is not working (and comments timestamp still wrong), we just tried Chrome, IE and Safari. Only difference we observe is "javascript:;" appears at bottom left screen in Chrome and IE when we select Reply and Safari displays no apparent reaction.

Any other ideas? I appreciate all suggestions. Thanks!

  9. Reply is not working on our blog either (felt stories.com)

  10. Serendipitiously, Reply is now working on our blog http://forum.bigfamilynews.com/. Anyone else see change today? Did Blogger implement a Feb 1 fix?

Comments timestamp still appears as Pacific Time (that of Google/Blogger HQ), not to our time zone settings.

Not ready to test fate just yet, so since removing all customized coding, we've still lost Feedburner functionality e.g. Email the author.

Good luck to others, and thanks for exchanges here.

  12. I am not sure if this issue is ongoing, but if it is, I have thought of a possible solution-- adding an anchor to post links that target the top of the post specifically, similar to the links intended to go directly to the comments and post summary, "read more," links.

To go about doing this, one would need to find the location of the post title or "post top" in their expanded template code, (usually after 'post hentry') and add the anchor name. For my example I will use 'posttop.' Then find all instances for the post URL (data:post.url), EXCLUDING references with anchors already such as for jump-breaks/post-summary links and those INTENDED to go directly to the comment form. Replace the remaining instances with data:post.url + "#posttop" - wouldn't this work?
