Google Update Page Rank Has Yours Increased?

Posted : Monday, June 27, 2011 | Post Author : Paul Crowe | 60 comments

Latest google page rank updateGoogle today updated their page rank (PR) or the so called toolbar page rank.Page rank is basically a signal of how important any given page is in Googles eyes.Page rank goes from 0 (zero) to 10 (Ten) with 10 being the highest thus the best. The page rank we see is called toolbar page rank as it was first displayed on the Google toolbar although there are many other ways to view it.In general people refer to their website or blog PR by the PR of the home page, but every single page on your blog will have it’s own PR.More on Page rank can be found in this post from when i informed you of the last update in January – Google Page Rank Information and even more from the great Matt Cutts Here.

In this post i want to look at how the change effected My Blogs, What will an increase mean, How to check your blogs page rank and some tips on increasing your page rank.

Our Page Rank ?

The update was very kind to Spice Up Your Blog as it has jumped from PR3 to PR5, many posts have a page rank of 3-4 also.It is a small percentage of blogs that reach PR5 (Half way up the ladder)  so I’m delighted to achieve it and see my hard work pay off.As a large part of Page Rank is from people linking to a site i would like to thank everyone that links to us and hope you continue to do so.I actually got a bit of a surprise to see our Blogger template site BestBloggerTemplates.Net jumped from PR0 to PR3, considering the domain was only connected a few months ago (Was formally www.templates.spiceupyourblog.com) it’s great.I have had other blogs also increase, my Social Icon site also jumped from PR0 to PR3.

What Will Increased Page Rank Do ?

When we talk about things like page rank it is important to remember it is just one signal.Spice Up Your Blog going from PR3 to PR5 does not necessarily indicate that i will see an instant increase in traffic from Google. It does show I’m heading in the right direction and performing well in search but many more factors come into play.

Check Your Blogs Page Rank

You can check your blogs current page rank with this Page Rank Checker (Do please ignore all the rubbish ads with offers to increase your page rank) let us know your results in the comments.

How Can You Increase Your Page Rank ?

Google use over 200 signals to determine Page Rank, some we know others are kept private. The main signal is backlinks, links Google find around the web pointing to your blog.If lots of people link to your blog it must be good, makes sense huh ? This post has more on the subject – Building Backlinks And Information To Increase Google Search Rank And Page Rank.Recent signals added to the google algorithms include Social Signals and Page Load Time. What you need to be doing is publishing Regular Good Unique content, Building Links to that content and staying patient allowing natural links to build. You can find lots of information and tools for this in our selection of Blogger SEO.

Let us know if your blogs page rank has changed in this update ?

  4. Well, to be frank, I’m not surprised with PR5 for your blog because you kept posting quality articles and that paid for you! So, you deserve it buddy! And I won’t be surprised to see your Ad pricing go higher either! LOL:) Any way, congrats for the new PR and my blog has got a PR3 now!

  9. @ Mukund – Thanks for your kind works and well done on your PR increase. It will be interesting to see if a PR increase has an effect on ad sales, looking at the sites that sell the most ads on BSA page views seems to be the main factor for advertisers.

  10. @ Rosie – Good Job ! And none of that “Not Active” rubbish give an hour a day to your blog and keep growing (Pun Not Intended) take a leaf out of my book (Pun Intended) :D.

In my opinion, I think this PR update has a connection with Panda campaign Google expanded during many months ago. Content has the very important role in this PR update, the websites/blogs with good quality content, frequently refresh, unique & useful information will be ranked higher than low quality sites.

  17. Hey paul i got from Pr0 to Pr4 it’s all because of you paul thanks

  18. @Paul Crowe: Well, first priority would be the impressions that the ad space receives and the traffic you get. But, when it comes to two equally poised web-pages, PR would give you an edge! So, I guess it should improve your sales! Just hope for the best:)

  19. I have been with PR0 for a year and a half, and now I have PR3. Great! Anyway, I always humbly thought that PR0 with a quality and unique content website was not fair. Thanks for the post, if I hadn’t read it I wouldn’t have noticed my PR update.

  22. @Paul: Hello, my site’s nowhere in google’s results after this update. I used to rank 1st for some keywords and now I am nowhere even on the 5th page.

My traffic has gone from 350,000 pageviews per month to 30,000 per month. Please help ASAP.

    Thanks in advance

  23. @ Diddy – Your blog could have been penalized by Google for something. If you go to your webmaster tools account there may be information on it.I’m afraid there is nothing I can personally do to help I have no association with Google. You can post your question in the webmasters help forum and see if someone can shed some light on it – http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters?hl=en

    ReplyDelete

  24. @ Website Design – I think all blogs with genuine unique content will have seen an increase. The recent Google panda update is all about rewarding good content and punishing low quality content.

    ReplyDelete

  25. Yeah, I posted a question there but no reply till now.

    ReplyDelete

  26. You were right Paul, Google has not penalized my blogspot blog but Webmaster Tools is showing 404 error for my high ranking pages even though they exist and are fully working. What should I do now ?

    ReplyDelete

  27. @ Diddy – At least you have an idea of the problem now.You will need to post a question again on the webmaster forum with this information. If you dont get an answer within a few hours post it again or bump the original tread.Hopefully a top moderator can help or flag it to a Google employee…

  28. @Paul : thanks for you support and this great site too. Keep it up!!!

  29. PR5…I think you deserve for it. Got PR4 after 5 months blogging. Now seeking the answer on how to retain the PR or keep the momentum. Good to hear from you. Thanks Paul

  30. I knew that Google must be changing their algorithums, as I found that my traffic had dropped by a large amount, meaning, google must have stopped supporting my site /placing my site as it had. Still, I am glad to see that nymfont.com still has it’s PR5. And I was glad to see that even a few of my other sites have now received PR4’s and PR3’s. 🙂

    ReplyDelete

  31. @ Lauren – That’s not good, the fact you did not loose page rank would indicate you have not been punished, though thats not 100%.You might have just been over taken in the search results for a few keywords.Look at the posts that were bringing in the most search traffic and the keywords the posts ranking for then get out creating some links to them with the keywords as anchor text so you can reclaim top spot !

  32. By golly, I have got a lot of work to do. I can’t thank you enough for your advice and info.

Does zero (0) even exist in the Google Page Rank?

  53. Yes Mavis zero does exist in page rank. When you first start a site you will have no page rank, not even zero.So the first step on the ladder is zero.
