list post titles only on BloggerIn this post i will show you a really Great trick that helps make your Blog much easier to Navigate for your visitors.This tip will help keep visitors to your blog On your Blog.I actually found it hard to give this post a title that would explain what this tip does and how it works, i will give you some examples below to explain.However hard it may be to explain its very easy to add to your Blog.

Screenshot

Blogger show titles only in label

Why change?

You may have 50 or more posts with the same label.If i did not make the change when someone clicks that label they would go to a page showing 50 Full Posts Your guess is as good as mine as to how long that page would take to load but you can be sure the visitor wont be waiting around to see.Its also better for the visitor to see the the results in a menu format as they will see a menu of what you have and that will bring them back.

How its done.

1.Click 'Layout'->'Edit html' for your blog.
(Tick 'Expand Widget Templates' box)

2.Find the following piece of code in your blogs template :
(Click'CTRL & F' For a search bar to find the code)

<b:include data='post' name='post'/>

3.Now Replace the code you found above with the code below :

<!--Labels in menu From:www.spiceupyourblog.com--><b:if cond='data:blog.homepageUrl !=data:blog.url'><b:if cond='data:blog.pageType != &quot;item&quot;'><a expr:href='data:post.url'><li/><data:post.title/></a><br/><br/><b:else/><b:include data='post' name='post'/></b:if><b:else/><b:include data='post' name='post'/></b:if><!--Labels in menu end-->

You have now changed how your label results are listed but also how your archive is listed and if you have a search bar on your blog results will be listed like this also.

Once you have changed the code click save and your done go test it out.

  1. Thanks for this code! I put in my blog and am thrilled. One question, though - I have a separate page set up, "About Me", and when I click the About Me tab it shows the shortcut on a page instead of the page. Is there a way to bypass this code just for say an "About Me" Page and "Contact Me" page???? I'm not smart enough with html to figure it out myself. Thanks if you can offer any hints!
    (Oh, my blog is www.ourpeculiarlives.blogspot.com if you need to see. THanks)

  4. Yay! This is exactly what I was looking for!! Thank you so much. My one question is if there's a way to either line the bullets up on the same line as the post titles or to take the bullets out all together? The font on my blog is so small that having the bullets on separate lines makes it hard to follow. My blog address is http://mammachristinephotography.blogspot.com

    I'm just starting it so the only label that has a list is "Shooting" at the top.

  6. This is a great tip! Is there a way to include a small thumbnail from the post? My readers are artist, visual people, and that thumbnail along w/the list format would be perfect! Thanks!

  7. Update: Code does exactly what it says and then some, that some hides page content in blogger. In blogger, all you will see is a page title - all content is hidden. If you click on the title it simply takes you back to the same page showing only the title and no content. I deleted the code and viola all the page content reappeared. won't be using this version of code after all. Will need to find one that better accommodates my custom template. thanks anyway

  13. Thanks, Paul - this works beautifully. I have a huge tag/label cloud and some of my most common labels pull a host of posts so this makes it much easier for readers to see the collection and choose.

    I would, though, love to have a thumbnail pull and show with each title, similar to how the Blogger gadget for most popular posts can be configured to pull the thumbnail. Is that easy to do with an added snippet of code?
    Thanks again for the handy refinement!

  15. Somehow the pages of the blog get transformed into lists as well though?
    Also I've had problems with posts showing up on direct linking after installing this template...

    If the pages problem would get fixed that template would be just great!

  16. I tried on this, though it is good for blog post to seen only with the post heading, your blog seems more empty then before. Another issue which I found out is that if I uses pages, you will not be able to click it and see the contents. Had to remove it in the end.. Any solutions ??

  17. I now agree with those having trouble with their "pages" not their posts.
    The idea works great none of the content on your static pages shows at all, just a link title that loops you continuously back into just the link title.
    So I had to remove it too. If you don't use any static pages, then you should be fine.

    @Spice is there a mod that will still do the good stuff but not hide the content of the static pages?
    Thanks!

  21. I wish this had worked. I tried using this on my blog and then noticed that I had an issue with Pages. posts would appear as links and they would loop back to the same page if clicked. I was trying to figure out what the issue was for a week and I finally have figured this out.

    Any help with this one?

  22. Thanks for the great tip! I only have one question. I used the code and the list looks right....except for one thing. I still have the dates above each individual post. I just want a nice straight list. How do I fix this? Also, is it possible to change the bullets? Thank you.

  35. Thanks this is so great and exactly what I wanted. Just one question: Can the list be changed so that the bullet point does not display above the title but next to it? In my list, the bullet points are just slightly above the titles of the posts listed.

    thanks again!

    Sarah
