Fix The ‘Cannot Find A Feed’ Problem On Blogger

Posted : Saturday, November 27, 2010 | Post Author : Paul Crowe | 12 comments

This is a quick post that I’m sure any of you that have experienced problems with Finding a feed from their blogs URL will appreciate. In fact even if you have not come across this problem you might want to follow the steps to make sure your Blogs feed can be easily found.OK so the problem I’m referring to occurs when you enter your Blogs URL (Home Page Address) somewhere and they try to fetch your Feed but return unsuccessful.Examples would be when you submit to Blog Directories, Add your blog to a Blog Roll or comment on Blogs with Comment Luv.In all these cases they try to find the feed to list one or more of your recent posts but the feed cannot be found.

This is a problem a number of Blogger users seem to be having and it can be easily fixed.Below i will show you a snippet of code you can add to the head of your template that can be found instantly.Sounds good so lets do it.

Add Default Feed Link To Your Blogs Template

Step 1. In Your (New Design) Blogger Dashboard Click The Drop Down Menu For Your Blog > Choose Template > Then Edit Html > Now Proceed as shown in the video Below :

Step 2. Find the following piece of code in your blogs Html (It’s Near The Top):

  • <head>

Step 3. Copy and paste the following code Directly Below / Under <head>

<link href=’YOUR-BLOGS-FEED-URL’ rel=’alternate’ title=’YOUR BLOGS TITLE’ type=’application/rss+xml’/>

Note – You must make the following changes :

Replace YOUR-BLOGS-FEED-URL with your blogs feed address, If you have a Feedburner URL use that otherwise use the default feed(Drop a comment below if your unsure of your blogs feed URL).

Replace YOUR BLOGS TITLE with the title of your blog, for example i would add Spice Up Your Blog.

Step 4. OK Save Your Template, you have added a feed link to your template that can be quickly found and returned by any Programme, Bot, Spider or Aliens from Jupiter.Make sure to check out more of our Posts with Tips To Help With Your Rss Feed.

Drop Your Comments, views and Questions Below.

  1. ExcogitateMyLife This is my feed address and it’s not working anymore. Even after applying the above method. As after this I wanted to attach feed icon to my all labels. I have tried high and low and al in vain. Can U help me out. In case u want I can give my original RSS feed address too.

  2. Thanks! One of my blogs would always appear on the bottom of people’s blog lists before inserting this code on its template.

Is it possible to change a blog template without losing all the codes you inserted manually? I’ve inserted so many I’ve lost count and as I’m not a web designer I couldn’t possibly spot all of them by now. I ask because I’d like to use one of your Christmas templates and also write a post in Portuguese explaining people could they could use the Holidays templates for a while and switch back to the previous one, if they so wish.

  3. @ Ana – When you change our template you can keep gadgets but as you say the code you added will be lost. Most code is added above the closing skin tag and head tag.So your css with be above ]] > < /b:skin > and your html and script will be above < /head > (both without spaces).Another option is to save your current template, use the Christmas template until after Christmas then you can upload the saved version again.

  4. Thanks for your explanation!

  5. once again Paul, you saved my life!!!

  7. Hi Paul,
Tried your copy and paste and type my feed url and title but when tried to save it came back “template cannot save as not parsed, not well-formed and xml error message”.
    Now what to do ?

  8. Sorry, I forgot to subscribe with the last comment I sent you, so now I have to see if you replied….but I did this, and am still not seeing my feed in Google Reader, which means my readers aren’t still seeing my feed anymore…Not sure what to try now. I’ve tried everything….

  9. I don’t know if you can help but the topic is similar. I have made some change (somewhere) and now my new posts are not appearing in feed as before. In and Feedit, the title of the post is just the name of the blog but in Google reader, it looks normal (post title). I have been trying to track down the source of the problem but I can’t seem to find it. any ideas where to look?
