Change The Number Of Posts Displayed In Your Feedburner Feed

Posted : Wednesday, October 06, 2010 | Post Author : Paul Crowe | 11 comments

feedburner logo blackYour Blogs Rss Feed by default displays the latest 25 posts. This is true with the default Blogger feed and the Feedburner feed. Most blogs are using the Feedburner feed provided by Google and if you don’t you should (How To Get A Feedburner Feed). You can change the number of posts displayed on your feed page to any number of posts you like and in this post i will show you how it’s done and why you should change.

You may think the reason for changing the number of posts displayed in your feedburner would be to increase it, but in fact it’s the opposite. Most people that visit your blogs feed have got there from your blog so they have seen your posts and are there to subscribe. You want as many Rss subscribers as possible so you want to make subscribing as easy as possible.

If your blog uses lots of images, video, flash ect.. loading 25 posts on the feed page could take longer than people are willing to wait.I believe many bloggers have lost out on Rss Subscribers because their feedburner page takes too long to load.I would suggest 10 posts is plenty to display on your feed page.Basically you gain nothing by having 25 posts but you can gain by having less so it makes sense to decrease the number. If your blog is not to heavy on images ect.. or if you promote your feed page you can of course increase the number of posts up from 25 to a maximum of 500.

Lets get started,

How To Change The Number Of Posts On Your Feedburner Feed

Step 1. Go to Feedburner and log into your account. On your My Feeds page click on the feed you want to edit.

Step 2. At the top of the page click ‘Edit Feed Details’ to open the options – Feed Title, Original Feed, Feed Address – See Image Below.

change feedburner settings

Step 3. Your Original Feed will look like this :

(YOURBLOG will be your blogs address)

Simply add the snippet of code to the end of your Original Feed like below :

You can change the max-results=10 to anything from 1 to 500.

Important : Make sure to only add the code as shown and not change anything else.If you think you may have made a mistake don’t save but go back to step 1 and start again.

Step 4. Click save feed details.

I did this and it didn’t work at first. Realized I needed to change to setting on my WP blog to allow more than three and it worked like a charm. Thanks!

I did this too and now the order of my podcasts are messed up in iTunes. Without the extra code provided here, the podcasts are in the correct order. Now, iTunes is sorting podcast episodes by most recently edited first. I don’t want that. I want original post date to dictate order. But if I do that, then I go back to the 25 episode limit. What is the solution?

  3. thanks….

  4. Hi,
If I change the number of the post as u have shown above so will the rest of the post which are left would be sent through another mail or not????

  5. This has nothing to do with your Email Rss, it only affects the feed people access through their reader.

  7. Hi, I’m trying to do this right now and all that’s happening is feedburner keeps kicking out the message “Your feed file size is larger than 576K”. I tried setting my max results to 3 and it won’t let me.

I’m also having validation issues, message says “feed contains more than one feedburner:emailServiceId” but I have no idea how to fix it.

  8. Thanks! Helped me a lot!

In our Feedburner, how would we increase the entry limit? We have Tumblr and when we login to Feedburner to edit the feed details, it doesn’t show us how you have it set up here. Instead it shows up as: How do we work around that? We have podcasts that are getting bumped off on iTunes each time we post something new since by default, it’s only 25 at a time. We want to increase it to 500. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  10. Hi, thanks for this post and it is working but it is making another problem. It is just showing the post as I set it to 1. but at the end of post there is no option in feed to direct user to see previous posts in the feed. how to do it dude

  11. Hi..

My Original Feeds end with “/?format=feed&type=rss” but not “/feeds/posts/default”. And I try to increase using ?max-results=30, but doesn’t work, showing this error: Received HTTP error: “Internal Server Error” while fetching source feed.

Can you guide me how to increase please?

  12. as u told, i did and understand everything.
but 1 thing i would like to know that, that i want to see more than 2 post (i set max-results=2 post).
so there is any content on your site to explain, that how add a next page button or older post button on feedburner.(currently showing on your blogger site )
