I set up this gadget as i didnt like the standerd Twitter widgets either.I worked on using the light blue Twitter colors and as you say it leaves room for some extra tweeks to suit your blog design.

I have spent the last 2 evenings trying to find a code for a Twitter gadget that worked but was also easily customizable so I could get it to look how I wanted. I just happened across this page while googling and it worked great!
