Disqus, Intense Debate And Livefyre – Use The Top Comment Systems On Blogger

Comments are one of the essential parts that make a blog a blog. Comments help everyone from Mommy bloggers to Fortune 500 company blogs receive reader and costumer opinion and feedback. So it’s important you and your readers get the most from your comments system.

The default Blogger comments have come a long way over the last few years culminating in the introduction of threaded comment replies last year. But as a Blogger user you have other options and lots of them. In this post we will look at the three most popular comment systems available and they can all be used on your Blogger blog. The top three independent comment systems are Disqus, Intense Detate and Livefyre. Lets look at all three and how you can use them on Blogger.

1. Disqus

Disqus was launched in 2007 and is used by sites such as CNN and Engadget.Disqus strives to built a community on your blog via interactive comments.Disqus is available in a number of styles and offers an in dept threaded comment function to further conversation.Users can comment using the classic Name/Email/URL option or use a selection of social profile including Facebook, Twitter, Google and their Disqus Profile.Comments can be voted up and down and reported by other users and you can reply directly from your Email.

Once you sign up for your account it only takes a few minutes to add to your blog.

Add Disqus To Blogger

Once you sign up under tools you will find the option to add a new site.Simply add your site URL and name to continue.

You will now be presented with a list of sites Disqus can be used on, choose Blogger.

On the next page it’s just a matter of clicking the add to blogger button and your done.

2. Intense Debate

Intense Debate was also a 2007 start up. One of the favored features of Intense Debate is comment luv. For those not familiar with comment luv it is a system that rewards commenter’s by displaying their latest post below their comment. So when you comment on a blog your last post is displayed on that blog. Like Disqus Intense Debate has social log in options, Email replies and comment voting.

How To Ad Intense Debate To Blogger

Sign Up For your free account and proceed to the install page : Intense Debate Install.

Add Your Blogs URL and click continue.

In the list of sites choose Blogger.

OK the next part is a bit more complicated to Disqus. You will need to download your template from blogger and upload it were requested. The steps are clearly marked out so you should have no problems.

3. Livefyre

Livefyre is more of a new kid on the block even though it was launched in 2008.Livefyre comments can be found and sites such as The New York Times and NBC Universal.Livefyre has really gone for the angle of making comments more social.

Wikipedia list out some of their accomplishments :

Since its launch, Livefyre has pioneered a number of features including: Social Sync, which integrates comments from Facebook and Twitter in a comment stream; Comment Notifiers, a bubble in the comment stream alerts the user to a new comment with a bubble featuring the user’s avatar and a preview of the comment; Friend Tagging, Liveryre allows users to tag/mention friends and followers from Facebook, Twitter and Livefyre handle with the option to notify friends by posting to their Facebook timelines and @ mentioning them on Twitter.

Add Livefyre To Blogger

Once you have your Livefyre account head to the products page were you will find the Install Now button.

Now Livefyre have been very slow to add easy Blogger integration.For the last few months at least they have they have a coming soon for Blogger.That’s the reason they are number three here, But fear not you can still use Livefyre on Blogger.

On the install page you will see the options for WordPress, TypePad and Custom. Enter your blogs URL and choose ‘Custom’, then click the keep going button.

You will now be presented with the code for the comments.Next we must add it to your blog.

First up you will want to turn off the Blogger comments you can do this in your settings under ‘Posts and Comments’. Now add the code as following :

1. In Your (New Design) Blogger Dashboard Click The Drop Down Menu For Your Blog > Choose Template > Then Edit Html > Now Proceed > Tick The Expand Widget Templates Box as shown in the video Below :

2. Find the following code in your template :

3. Copy and Paste the comment code from Livefyre Directly Above / Before <b:if cond=’data:post.showThreadedComments’> .

Save your template.
